Final Fantasy XIV, the popular MMO
currently available on PC, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, could be coming to Microsoft’s Xbox One after all, despite comments made in the past Square
Enix that such a thing wasn’t possible due to
the latter console not supporting cross-platform play. With Microsoft’s recent
moves to start allowing cross-server play and “not leaving anyone behind,” Square
Enix is more open to releasing the game on its
console. Director Naoki Yoshida delivered good news about talks with Microsoft
in an interview with Polygon, saying that they are underway.
“Microsoft
actually approached the Final Fantasy 14 team about the cross-platform
opportunity. When our team reviewed the regulations that are associated with
that, we realized that Microsoft may not have the experience or understanding
of running an MMORPG as an online game genre just yet. The Final Fantasy 14
team has fed back to Microsoft that there are certain elements of its
regulations that we would have to consider waived. We’re waiting on Microsoft’s
response for that, but we are having discussions.”
