LOOKING BACK AT 2017
2017 was a huge year for us. We added more than two million players to the game, many of whom came on board to check out our very first Chapter, The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind. This was the first time we added anything larger than a DLC to the game, and the reception (and success) of ESO: Morrowind was huge. Many of you returned to the game to check it out, and of course, many new players started their journey in Tamriel based on the excitement of exploring such an iconic—and nostalgic—location.

“We chose the Clockwork City to be The Elder Scrolls Online's next zone because it's a unique location that we haven't fully explored," says Creative Director Rich Lambert. “This is Sotha Sil's realm. It's his interpretation of how the world looks, how it works, or perhaps how he wants it to be. INVESTIGATE THE LOST FORGE
The Dreadhorn Clan, an unusual alliance between Reachmen and Minotaurs, has been terrorizing the people of the Jerall Mountains for months, and now you and your comrades must travel to a long-forgotten site to investigate the fate of those taken and discover the truth of Bloodroot Forge.
“The idea behind this dungeon is an ancient forge, buried away within the bowels of the earth, that is unstable and highly volatile," says Mike Finnigan, ESO's Dungeon Lead. “When building this new area, we wanted it to feel primal and somewhat untouched."
When traversing the winding paths towards the Forge, you'll notice the twisting growth of pulsing vines and rich Nirncrux veins. These strange plants seem to draw Nirncrux, a rare material reportedly found exclusively in Craglorn, up from the ground in huge quantities, bathing the area in a red glow.

DISCOVER A TOWN UNDER SIEGE
The mysterious forces that have been raiding the Jerall Mountains for months have finally attacked a major city. Falkreath's defenses are under assault by the Dreadhorn Clan, an unusual alliance between men and beasts, and without your assistance, the invaders threaten to burn the city to the ground.
The location of this newest dungeon is the same city of Falkreath that you might have explored in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but with ESO set 1000 years earlier, you will find the southern Nord city at its prime!
As you make your way into the Falkreath, you might recognize some of the environment and structures from TESV, including the winding forest pathways, the tall mountains, and even Shriekwind Bastion looming over the city itself.

The Warden has a nature-based theme, making them unique in comparison to The Elder Scrolls Online's original four classes. How did you come to the decision to give this theme to the game's first new class?
Wrobel: It is important for us that players are able to express themselves in lots of different ways, and you can see this design principal with the flexibility that each of the current classes have.
When trying to create this new class, we analyzed the core components of our game to find out what was missing. From there, we brainstormed an entire ability suite for different classes and themes, refined the best ideas, and then picked a winner – the Warden and their nature-based abilities!

I believe this assertion is either the result of a lack of proper academic rigor, or, just as likely, an attempt to manufacture controversy to appeal to the masses.

Morrowind in the ESO: Vvardenfell Flora and Fauna

Vvardenfell is unlike anywhere else in Tamriel. In our first look at some of the wondrous creatures and dramatic environments you'll encounter in The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind, we introduce newcomers the Vvardvarks and Cliff Striders, and learn about a few of Vvardenfell's more verdant regions.

 Vvardenfell Flora and Fauna
The Vvardenfell landscape undergoes a constant cycle of death and rebirth. Red Mountain's lava flows, eruptions and ash-fall cause die-back in the deciduous woodlands and mushroom jungles, violent upheaval alters the landscape and buries (or exposes!) the fallen ruins of ancient civilizations. But the island expands as lava hardens, and new plants and fungi emerge from the cooling ashes amongst the formations of igneous rock.
Plant life flourishes in the rich soil fertilized by volcanic activity, and so Vvardenfell is home to a diverse set of biomes.
Fungi quickly absorb rich nutrients from the volcanic soil and grow to enormous proportions to dominate the landscape. The large Ink-Cap Mushrooms along the Bitter Coast thrive on the detritus of decaying swamp life, while smaller fungus varieties cover the rocks, trees and even some animals, such as the fungus-encrusted Shroom Beetle. Adorable!

Homestead Guide in the Elder Scrolls Online: Furnishing Crafting & Master Writs

If you own a home in Tamriel as an ESO player, you'll need to furnish your newfound space with furniture. One way to get the furniture you so desire is to craft it yourself! Read on to learn the basics of Furnishing Crafting, a new system available in our latest update, Homestead.

What is Furnishing Crafting?
Furnishing Crafting allows you to craft furniture to place in your home, or to sell to other players for a profit. Furnishing Crafting is an extension of the six primary tradeskills: Blacksmithing, Clothier, Woodworking, Enchanting, Alchemy, and Provisioning.
Who can participate in Furnishing Crafting?
Anyone! You don't actually need to own a home to craft furnishings and some furnishings can be made with the most fundamental skills so it's easy to get started.
Where do I go to craft some furnishings?
You can craft furnishings at any crafting station. When used, you'll find a new tab for Furnishing plans related to that station's tradeskill.
Where do I get Furnishing Crafting plans?
Much as with conventional food recipes, furnishing plans can be found stashed in buildings, backpacks, or within pockets of NPCs throughout the world. Occasionally, you can even find some in ruins or dungeons. If you're stealing furnishing plans, though, try not to get caught!

2017 will feature four major events in ESO!

ESO Game Director Matt Firor rings in a new year with a new message. Read on to learn more about what's in store for the Elder Scrolls Online in 2017.

Welcome to a new year in The Elder Scrolls Online! We had a great year in 2016. Our user base is larger than it was at this point last year, and is thriving. There are more adventures in Tamriel and more freedom in how you choose to explore them than ever.
Now it is time to look ahead to 2017. All of you are well aware that we have already announced Morrowind, the next Chapter in ESO, which will be launching in June - but we will be also continuing to add many other great things to the game. You can expect to see more of the standard DLC you are accustomed to, including our regular commitment to upgrading, fixing, and providing quality of life additions and fixes for the game, and much more.
Thank you all for being part of the ESO community. We have come a long way together – but the journey is just beginning, and it is going to be a lot of fun enjoying the ride together.
This year will feature four major events:

The Housing System of Elder Scrolls Online is Coming Soon

Housing is an often-requested feature in just about every MMORPG that launces without it. The Elder Scrolls Online is no different. Since the game launched, housing has been one of Zenimax’s most-requested additions. Here comes the good news! In early 2017, Homestead will be the free Update that brings it to all Tamriel’s citizens.

There's no place like home after a long day of adventuring. Homestead, The Elder Scrolls Online's player housing system, is coming in February 2017. Learn what you can expect at launch, including how many homes there will be, how you get them, and details about home decorating and furniture crafting!
Homestead, included free with ESO's next major game update, introduces the long-anticipated player housing system. It also includes furniture crafting and robust home decoration options. With nearly 40 unique homes to choose from and over 2,000 individual decorative and furniture options to make each home truly unique, Homestead will allow you to make Tamriel your own like never before.
You can begin your journey as a proud Tamriel homeowner when Homestead launches on PC/Mac, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 in February, 2017. If you play ESO on PC/Mac and would like to help us test Homestead, you'll get your chance to join us on the ESO PTS (Public Test Server) in January.

The ESO Welcomes Crown Crates

Crown Crates are a new addition to the Elder Scrolls Online Crown Store that will give you a chance to obtain exclusive and unique pets, mounts, and more alongside useful consumable items.

This Thursday, we'll be introducing the first season of Crown Crates to the ESO Crown Store. Crown Crates are purchased through the Crown Store, and contain a randomized selection of useful consumables and collectibles that are valued more than the price of a single crate. In addition, they also offer a chance to obtain unique cosmetic items, pets, or mounts. Crown Crates include new and exclusive items, as well as some items you might have missed in previous limited time offers.
Whenever you purchase a Crown Crate, you will always be awarded four items, with the chance to get a fifth item. In the event you receive a mount, pet, costume or personality that you already own from your Crown Crate, you'll be awarded a new resource - Crown Gems - in its place. You will also have the option to convert several items obtained from Crown Crates to Crown Gems any time you want. Items that can be manually converted include potions, poisons, riding lessons, experience scrolls, and other utility-type items. Any Crown Gems you earn can then be used to purchase the collectible items of your choosing from the current Crown Crate season.

ESO: See the Sights of Rivenspire in One Tamriel

After the update 12 brings players together in One Tamriel, now comes the new feature. Rivenspire is a dark and dreadful realm whose secret truths will challenge you to the depth of your soul in the Elder Scrolls Online. The ominous, jagged landscape bespeaks a history of depraved ambition that haunts its haggard inhabitants, who cower in their homes as the shadows of the past swirl and coalesce into dire threats that menace the present. But if you can find and face the evil at the dark heart of Rivenspire, treasure, glory, and gratitude will be your reward. Armor up, and keep your weapons at hand—Rivenspire awaits!

With the launch of One Tamriel and the removal of level restrictions from all of Tamriel, you can now explore any zone, at any time, and with anyone you choose. Zones that were previously unreachable or too difficult at lower levels are now accessible to all players.
One of our favorites of these more challenging zones is Rivenspire, an unforgiving land of rocky crags and feral beasts, a region that was previously suited only to players ranging from levels 25 to 30. So what can you expect if you venture north to this gloomy realm for the first time as a new player or a lower level adventurer? Guide to Dueling in the Elder Scrolls Online

The Elder Scrolls Online is more attractive and interesting now, here comes the newest announcement of the ESO Update 12! One of the biggest features coming with Update 12 is the ability to fight another player from any alliance with our new dueling system! This will allow you to test new builds, try a different fighting style, or simply kill some time before hopping into a dungeon.

HOW TO START A DUEL
Duels can take place in any non-PvP overland zone (let's keep Cyrodiil as a true battle zone!). To begin a duel, first open the social interaction wheel when interacting with another player and choose “Invite to Duel". Alternatively, you can also type “/duel [player name]"with a nearby player. After the challenged opponent accepts the duel invitation, a flag will appear and there will be a short countdown before you begin, so get ready! Once someone reaches zero hitpoints, the duel will conclude; the losing player will be offered a free resurrection, though, or can also be resurrected by other players. If you don’t want to be involved in the duel system you can turn on auto-decline in the social panel of the options menu.
During one-on-one combat, you'll need to stay within a certain radius centered around the flag, but don't worry; you'll be notified if you are nearing the edge, and we've made it a fairly sizeable area to move around in. If you leave your dueling area, the match will result in a forfeit. It's also worth mentioning that other players not participating in the duel will not be able to heal or buff the two duelers, but the Battle Spirit buff will be applied. Combat with monsters will also not interrupt or end your duel.

Appearance & Race Change                            
If you're looking to make a slight adjustment to your cheek bones, or want to create a whole new look, you can achieve your dream in our latest update. All you'll need is to purchase either an Appearance Change Token or Race Change Token, accessible directly from the ESO Crown Store.
Appearance Change Tokens:
These tokens allow for complete modification of one character's appearance, including but not limited to hair styles and colors, adornments, face and body markings, facial features, eye color, age, body and face shape, as well as selected voice and even gender. One Appearance Change Token can be purchased for 1000 crowns.
Race Change Tokens:
These tokens grant you everything the Appearance Change Tokens do, plus the ability to change one character's race to one available for that character and account. Those that have the Explorer's Pack will be able to choose any race from any alliance; otherwise, you can choose any race from your chosen alliance. You'll be able to purchase one Race Change Token for 3000 crowns.
